MathCounts

This class is geared toward students who are about at the level of barely making the State Round of the Mathcounts exam. This class teaches challenging concepts which appear on the exam with a combination of lectures, practice problems, mock exams, and fun games such as mock Team and Countdown rounds. This class will cover geometry, algebra, counting/probability, and number theory. By the end of this class, students should be able to easily qualify for and excel at the State Round of Mathcounts.

Eric Ren

My name is Eric Ren, and I'm a sophomore at Gunn High School. I am adept at math, even skipping a grade in it in 8th grade. Furthermore, I have experience with the AMC contests, having made AIME last year. Having tutored a student for a year in geometry last year, and having acted as a student tutor for three of my peers this year, I feel confident that I can teach students in MathCounts. In my free time, I enjoy making puns, so astronomically bad that my friends once asked me if I’d ever heard of vows of silence. So terrible that they are outlawed by the Geneva convention as weapons of mass destruction. I also enjoy booking it over to the library where I can find books to avoid social contact (I’m rather awk-word). Always game for an hour of video games, I’ve been into Fallout 3 lately. Sometimes I also bike for fun, though my bike isn’t geared toward racing.

Henry Ying

Hello, my name is Henry. I go to Los Altos High School. I have experience in both programming and competition math. I have a year of Java background and I have learned iOS programming this year. In 8th grade, my Mathcounts team at Egan got first place in the chapter round. In 10th grade, I qualified for the AIME.
